What Is A Dental Crown?
A crown is a strong, thimble-like object designed to cover the outer 2mm or more of your tooth. Crowns (often referred to as 'caps') can be used to restore and protect brittle, broken or damanged teeth, but may also help restore the cosmetic appearance of your smile!
What is Involved in the Crowning Process?
The crowning process involves the preparation of the tooth by filing a very fine layer of the outer surface of the tooth (enamel). Once the tooth is prepared, an impression is taken of the area, and a temporary crown is constructed to wear for approximately 2 weeks. The impression is then sent to a special laboratory where a crown will be specially fabricated to fit your tooth. When designing your crown, the technician will take into consideration your bite, surrounding tooth structure and colour, and the desired colour and final appearance of your smile. Once the crown has been made, your dentist will remove your temporary crown and permanently cement your final crown.

BEFORE: Stained and heavily restored teeth.

AFTER: Dental crowns can be used to enhance the colour and shape of heavily restored and stained teeth, giving you the confidence to smile again!
